Winners of IOM/Ministry of Education MIGRATION MATTERS Creative Competition Announced

(IOM)- The Ministry of Education, Human Resource Planning, Vocational Training & National Excellence in collaboration with the United Nations Migration Agency, IOM hosted its Migration Matters Creative Competition Prize Giving Ceremony on Thursday 21 April 2022 at Alliance Française from 10:00 am.
The winners and runners up in each of the three categories were announced as below. Winners were awarded cash prizes of EC$500 each, provided by the IOM under the project “Enhancing the Border
Management Capacity of the Government of Dominica” funded by the IOM Development Fund (IDF).
Primary Category – Drawing Competition – The Impact of Migration on the Family

  1. Malachi Michel, aged 7, Convent Preparatory School
  2. Charmalla Christian, aged 10, Convent Preparatory School
  3. Atarah Alfred, aged 5, Castle Bruce Primary School

Junior Secondary Category – Creative Media Presentation – Outstanding Migrant in Society

  1. Tyler-Ann Hunter, aged 12, Convent High School
  2. Shamia Darroux, aged 14, Dominica Grammar School
  3. Darlia Dangleben, aged 13, Convent High School

Upper Secondary Category – Essay Competition – The effects of push and pull factors on the permanent
relocation of a particular group in society and/or region

  1. Shasha Maxwell, aged 16, Convent High School
  2. Yan Gregoire, aged 15, Dominica Grammar School
    Students of the Castle Bruce Preparatory School, Convent High School, Convent Preparatory School,
    Dominica Grammar School, Massacre Primary School, North Eastern Comprehensive, St. Johns Primary
    School, and St. Martin Primary School participated in the competition, which was made available to all primary and secondary schools on island. IOM and the Ministry of Education have committed to
    continuing the initiative in upcoming years.
    All participants in the competition received tokens through the generous partnerships of the Ministry of Education, IOM, Big Edge Financial Express, Alliance Francaise de la Dominique, Junior Chambers International (JCI) Dominica, HHV Whitchurch & Co Ltd – agents for Smalta, and Fine Foods Inc – agents for King Juices & Frito Lay.
