Dominican Artist Reisha Felix Making Waves in Canada with Public Art Display

Toronto-based Dominican artist Reisha Felix continues to make a name for herself on the international art scene, with her latest achievement literally rolling through the streets of Canada. One of her signature artworks, which celebrates the beauty of Black hair, has been wrapped onto a Durham Region Transit Bus as part of the Regional Municipality of Durham’s 2025 Black History Month campaign.

Reisha, an award-winning fine arts and multimedia artist, was born and raised in Dominica before relocating to Canada. Known for her unique artistic style—incorporating acrylic paints and hot glue to create textured, touchable pieces—she has consistently used her work to highlight Afro-Caribbean culture and the significance of Black hair in Black identity.

Speaking about the milestone, Reisha expressed her excitement:

“When I started my #artventure back in 2016, I would never have imagined that this would be happening! I know my art is 🔥, but seeing it come to life on a public bus just hits DIFFERENT!”

Her selection for this project marks not only her first major public art display in Canada but also her first collaboration with a Canadian municipality—a historic and deeply personal achievement.

A Growing Legacy in the Art World

Reisha Felix’s work has been exhibited in numerous prestigious galleries across Ontario, including:

A Black Art Fair at Nia Centre for the Arts

‘Impact’ at Neilson Park Creative Centre

BLK Frames Vol 3 at Withrow Gallery

Two shows at The Serpa Gallery

‘Crown’ at The Scugog Artspace Gallery

Art à la Carte at the Legislative Building in Toronto

Her art has gained international recognition, with pieces held in private collections in Canada, the U.S., England, Africa, and the Caribbean. She has also engaged with the community through live painting events and art workshops, collaborating with schools and organizations like ArtStarts Toronto and NIA Centre for the Arts.

Dominican Excellence on a Global Stage

Reisha’s latest success underscores the growing global impact of Dominican artists, proving that talent from the Nature Isle can shine anywhere in the world. With her artwork now moving through the streets of Durham, her message of cultural pride, Black beauty, and artistic excellence is reaching even more people.

As Reisha puts it: “This achievement will always hold a special place in my heart. I am so incredibly honored and proud to be part of this much-needed work.”
