Roseau, Dominica (February 17, 2025) The Old Oven Art Gallery at Fort Young Hotel is proud to present “Pathways Towards Inner Essence”, a solo exhibition featuring the evocative works of Carla Armour.
Opening on February 18 to run through April 21, 2025, this captivating exhibition invites viewers on a journey of self-exploration, resilience, and interconnectedness. With collections of emotive paintings, installation and spoken word, it opens up the transformative power of art as a medium for self-discovery, cultural resonance and transcendence.
Each painting is an immersion into vibrant layered colours, asemic marks, text and iconography inspired by West Indian symbology, colonial customs and Indigenous petroglyphs, refecting a deep connection to our mixed heritage.
“I am honoured and excited to present my work at the Fort Young Hotel’s Old Oven Art Gallery, a fortifed place steeped in history – one of struggle for identity, resilience and transformation”, states artist, Carla Armour. “ As a site of defence and protection, combined with its connection to a culinary past, resonates deeply with my explorative process. My work for this exhibition feels site specifc, shaped by the energy of this space, and I hope that resonance is felt.”
About the Artist: Carla Armour, a Dominican-born multidisciplinary artist, poet, and curator, is renowned for her introspective and dynamic creations that blend abstract expressionism with rich storytelling. Pathways Towards Inner Essence is a profound refection of her artistic philosophy—layered, symbolic, and deeply rooted in her Caribbean heritage and global infuences.
