The Discover Dominica Authority(DDA) has begun promoting the fetes and activities for the 2023 carnival season. According to promoters, revelers can expect the unexpected at Sunrise and Ole Mas.
Events Assistant at the DDA, Kerwin Jno. Baptiste described Sunrise as ‘the most anticipated fete for the season’ and as ‘the ultimate daybreak breakfast fete which gives you a vibe, an experience and a taste of what is offered throughout the Caribbean in just one fete’.
The third edition of Sunrise is carded for February 17th, from 11 pm at Carnival City. Early bird tickets for the event will be available for sale soon.
Chief Cultural Officer, Earlson Matthew spoke about Ole Mas which will be held at Pointe Mitchel this year.
He said, “The reason for the jouvert approach to Ole mas this year is that these traditions were popularized during that time but now struggle as they compete with electronic bands. The intention is to give them their own time and space and hopefully this resurgence will eventually see increased participation on the actual Jouvert morning”.
He said that Ole Mas is not intended to be an event where patrons stand and observe. It is intended to be an inclusive experience where all are encouraged to dress the part and play their part.
He said that the people of Pointe Mitchel and the surrounding communities are welcoming and supportive. They are ready and willing to assist in making Ole Mas 2023 something to remember.
Ole Mas will be held on January 21st at 4:00 AM
