Castle Bruce Fest Kicks Off With A Show of Gratitude

The annual Feast of our Lady of Health Parish will kick off on Saturday 10th August with an Award and Appreciation Dinner at the Castle Bruce Primary School. This event will be the first of several events for the week of celebrations which will culminate with Holy Mass on Sunday 18th August 2019.

Hon. Johnson Drigo, Parliamentary Representative for the area, says the Awards Dinner is an expression of gratitude and a positive way to launch the festivities.

“We wanted to start off by showing our gratitude and appreciation, especially, to the overseas-based persons and organisations who gave their time and resources to help the community recover from the ravages of Hurricane Maria. “

He says it was an opportunity to reflect and celebrate.

“We have come a long way from where we were on the morning of September 19th, 2017. It is only fitting that we acknowledge those who helped us, while at the same time coming together as a community to enjoy good food, good music and each other’s company. “

The recipients of awards are: Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies International and Caribbean Nazareene College of Trinidad, Faith Hope and Love Church and Dr. John Jno. Finn, both based in Nashville Tennessee. Houston-based Dominica Houston Association and Jon and Theresa Bannis and family, as well as Florida churches Christ the King Church of Miami and New Testament Worship Center of Tampa, will receive plaques of appreciation.  The Dominica Boston Association, as well as the Dominica Mission in New York / Ambassador Loreen Bannis Roberts, will be awarded; as will the Barbados and St. Kitts Nevis Weslyan Holiness Districts. St. Lucian Alan Smith (owner of Probelle Construction) will be honoured for his contributions to the community shelter- which are still ongoing. The Catholic Church of Dominica and the St. Vincent de Paul Society will also be recognised.

Following this Saturday’s event, activities will continue on Wednesday 14th august at the Primary school where Dr. Lennox Honychurch will present a lecture on the History of Castle Bruce. A special focus will be given to the rivers of the area as World Rivers Day will be celebrated on September 29th with a community picnic.

Thursday, August 15th will see the official opening of the newly constructed Senhouse Bridge- a key and historic landmark in the area.

On the weekend, the action goes into high gear with entertainment by various artists including a select group from the community.  On Friday the 16th, there will be performances from DJ Cuepid, DJ MJ, DJ Flip Tha Boss, DJ Midian, Asa Bantan, Triple Kay International and Lapo Kabwit.

Saturday 17th August will be the family fun and sports day with entertainment in the evening featuring Castle Bruce acts- Ayeo George, Red Eye Rudy, Staroid, Kerny G, Bopey, Champion Eli, Artikal, Jojo and Machine Creole. There will also be performances by Smith Brothers, Midnight groovers, Keks Mafia with DJs for the night, DJ Star, DJ Vibes and DJ Athie.

On the morning of Sunday 18th August, high mass will be held at Our Lady of Health Roman Catholic Church in Castle Bruce followed by lunch for invited guests at the Primary School.

The week’s activities are organised by the Parliamentary Representative and the Village Council.
