Woodfordhill Native Spearheads Donation To School; Husband Pledges $1000 to GSAT Top Ten Performer

Mrs. Coraley Thomas and her husband Ken Thomas on Monday donated 75 backpacks filled with school supplies to the Woodfordhill Primary School. The donation was made possible with the help of persons in the diaspora, namely Cheryl Plummer of the HEDY(Helping Educate Dominica Youth) Foundation in New York. 

Another donation will be made to another school compliments of Mrs. Frances Delsol, Mr and Mrs Hadriana Leo, Mr. and Mrs. Jacqueline Douglas, Mr and Mrs Marcia Russell of Toronto, Canada and the Thomas’.

Mrs. Thomas, who is from the village said that it is her pleasure to assist in anyway that she can. Thomas who recently took up a post as Nutritionist with the Ministry of Education said that it is in this role at PTA meetings, she received feedback from parents indicating this area of need. She sprung into action and reached out to various individuals seeking assistance.

“They did not hesitate and when I expected one or two backpacks, they went over and beyond especially Ms. Plummer and the HEDY Foundation.”

Thomas said that her motivation is to do whatever she can to see her community thrive. 

Meanwhile, Mr. Ken Thomas added his support for the school in pledging $1000 to the student who makes the Top Ten List in next year’s Grade Six Achievement Tests. This is all part of motivating the students to excel.

Thomas and his wife who lived in Canada have been contributing back to Dominica since the impact of Tropical Storm Erika. They have since moved back home and continue to do so whenever the opportunity presents itself.
