We Are Not In A Position To Relax Says National Epidemiologist

The Ministry of Health continues to update the general public via weekend press briefings. On Friday, national epidemiologist reminded the public that even though all 16 positive cases have recovered, we are in no position to relax.

Dr. Ahmed said that we need to be sure how many symptomatic and asymptomatic cases are out in the community since the 16 confirmed cases were detected through the primary health care services.

Surveillance activities continue through testing of health care workers and community based screening.

Ahmed explained the main aim of community testing is “to detect persons with symptoms within the community who are not seeking medical care as well as those who are asymptomatic and roaming around in the community”.

600 randomly selected households within the community will be visited and all members of the household will be screened for clinical signs and symptoms indicative of COVID-19.

Dr. Ahmed thanked the chief statistician and her team for their help in the sampling process.
