Dominican Students Continue To Excel At US University (CONT’D)

Over the years, Dominican students have risen above many challenges and emerged top of their class at many universities. This year is no different.

Many of the students are away from family and friends, have to worry about finances to maintain right standing with the school or where they are going to spend the summer. On top of that the students this year had the added displacement caused by COVID-19, yet their studies didn’t suffer. What determination and will!

We at Emonews will be featuring some of the top students at Midwestern State University who have done exceptionally well and made us all proud.

CONGRATULATIONS STUDENTS!!!! YOU ARE AMAZING!!!

The students featured today will graduate Magna Cum Laude(GPA of 3.7- 3.89) and Cum Laude(GPA of 3.5-3.69). (They are in no particular order)

1. Jernelle JnoBaptiste-
Management Information Systems.“The three years truly went by quickly. I would advise anyone who is interested to work hard and be consistent, it is easier to keep your grades up than to play catch up! Also, ensure that you get involved on campus to leave a great impression behind for other students from your island through hard work and determination”.

2. Mariesam Isles, BBA Finance”It’s a bittersweet feeling because it’s like our university life got cut short as a result of the corona virus. All in all, I enjoyed my time at MSU and gained a lot of knowledge that will help further me in my Finance career. However, I also lost a lot. In Fall 2018 my father lost his battle with cancer and I sank into a deep depression. It was by the grace of God, the support of my mother, Deborah Isles and, aid from the Government that I was able to push through.”

Isles advises future students to do their best. To give every quiz, exam, or extra credit their all and to not be afraid to ask for help.

3. Kayla Samuel- BBA Finance”The importance of working smart was highlighted throughout my journey. My experience was the perfect example of the old saying “nothing good comes easy.” To those considering pursuing higher education ensure that you surround yourself with people who will motivate you and those you share common goals with . Explore all available resources and do not be afraid to ask questions. All in all, set a goal you want to achieve and do not stop until you get there. Customize a plan that suits you but do not be afraid to get out of your comfort zone.”

4. Rumelia .E. Thomas- BSc in Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering Certification and minor in Computer Science.

“If I could describe my journey I would say, “The challenge is in the chase and the joy is in the journey.” It has been nothing short of a roller coaster, but in the end I prevailed with God by my side and the most supportive parents, Melvin and Ruthina Thomas. To all future students, it is not an easy road, but it is a rewarding one! Trust in God and trust in the process because each day is a gift and not a given right. We owe it all to him”.

5. Chelsea Massicot, BSc in Respiratory Care minor in Psychology” With God every and anything is possible, I owe it all to him! In spite of the obstacles along the way I pressed forward. Graduating class of 2020 and students going forward “Be bold, be courageous, be your best”.”

6. Arthlene Bellot- Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Finance”I feel ecstatic, proud and immensely blessed to have achieved so much during this time. The journey, though tough, was well worth it, and the sacrifices that my family and I made to make this possible has definitely paid off. For future students, remain humble always and get involved, getting the best out of the journey.”
