In observance of World Mental Health Day, the Ministry of Health and Social Services will begin an awareness campaign throughout the island to focus on suicide.
Dr. Nadia Wallace says, “The highlight of this campaign is to conduct consultations within the ministry of Health and Social Services as we prepare to establish a standard operating procedure manual for the management of suicide in Dominica.”
Other activities of the campaign include media and community presentations, church services, health walk, and games. Wallace says that although the number of persons who die by suicide is small, many persons attempt to take their own lives to get the attention of their families and community.
