Roseau, 13 March 2023 – The Dominica Water and Sewerage Company Ltd. (DOWASCO) will celebrate Water Week from March 20 to 24. The company will host a week of activities geared towards students and the general public as we use this opportunity to raise awareness on the significance of the proper management of water.
Water Week highlights World Water Day, celebrated on March 22nd every year. This year, emphasis is being placed on forging partnerships to accelerate the attainment of Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG6): Clean Water and Sanitation for all by the year 2030. The theme, ‘Accelerating Change Through Cooperation and Partnership’ aims to fast-track the attainment of this sustainabledevelopment goal. Currently, the world is significantly behind in the achievement of SDG6 which means billions of people still lack access to clean water. World Water day this year is a call for us to evaluate the use of this precious resource and determine how we can individually and cooperatively play our part to secure it.
Reflecting the significance of this year’s theme, DOWASCO has partnered with the Forestry Division, the Fisheries Division, The Dominica Meteorological Service, the Dominica Red Cross Society and the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation to host a Grand Exhibition at the Botanic Gardens in Roseau on March 24 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. A second exhibition will also be held on March 22 on the grounds of the company’s office in Portsmouth. Among other highlights of the week is an interschool debate competition scheduled for Thursday, March 23 at the UWI Open Campus Auditorium.
