Dominican Writer featured in Commonwealth Writers Collection

Dominican writer, Lisa J Latouche, is one of seven writers selected out of over 1,100 international entrants for the first issue in a collection of literary work curated by the Commonwealth Foundation.
The collection ‘Speak Out!’ was released today, April 21, 2022, on addastories.org which is the Commonwealth Writers official online magazine. ‘Speak Out!’ features work from writers all over the world exploring the theme ‘Freedom of Expression’ and its wider subthemes of gender, LGBTQIA+, race/ethnicity, politics among others.
Miss Latouche said she is elated that her story ‘Atiya Firewood’ is featured in such a reputable space. According to her, ‘Atiya Firewood’ is a ‘mystical story about alternative spirituality in a culture that rejects the ‘other.’ But it is also a story of self-love and the will to be oneself in spite of resistance.’
Miss Latouche collaborated with Dominican photographer Yuri. A Jones, whose image illustrates the story.
Both Latouche and Jones are the first Dominican artists to ever be featured on Commonwealth Writers.
