Roseau, March 15, 2021 – The health and socio-economic impact of COVID-19 has long-lasting impacts for Dominica; hence, the collective response of all citizens and partners will determine the country’s growth and development. Regional experts, Dr. Yitades Gebre, PAHO/WHO Representative for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Countries, and Dr. Justin Ram, Former Director of Economics at Caribbean Development Bank and Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of GSec and Justin Ram Advisory Services, will present the health and socio-economic perspectives respectively on this topic.

Executive Director of DAIC, Lizra Fabien shared, “We believe that all stakeholders play crucial roles in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic to reduce its impact, as well as in our recovery as a nation and region. Furthermore, we believe that the perspectives of both Dr. Gebre and Dr. Ram through our platform will be valued by our members, the private sector, and stakeholders to inspire our best actions towards our desired recovery.”

Fabien further shared that in order to prepare adequately for the challenges ahead and to mitigate the continued adverse health and socio-economic impacts of COVID-19 on all citizens, this Breakfast seeks to achieve the following objective: to understand the imposing threat of COVID on Dominica given its impact on other Caribbean islands, to understand the health and socio-economic effects of the second wave and possible lockdown, and to build awareness within the business and general community of the best practices implemented regionally and globally in mitigating the adverse impact of COVID-19.
