EcoBalance Inc. an NGO in Dominica, whose mission is “To educate, inform and influence communities
in various aspects of capacity development.
EcoBalance Inc. has been successful in obtaining grant funding from the Canadian Fund for Local
Initiatives (CFLI), through a project titled “Occupational Health and Safety in the agricultural sector”.
This project aims to engage thirty (30) farmers in the following activities.
1.Ergonomics training; farmers will be trained in the proper methods of lifting of items on the farm,
bending, handling of tools these activities focuses on minimizing damage to the musculoskeletal
functions of farmers. At the end of the training, farmers will be receiving Personal Protective Equipment
(PPE’s).

2. Basic First Aid training; farmers will be engaged by the Dominica Red Cross in basic first aid training.
   On completion of this training each successful participant will receive a first aid kit.
3. Food Handlers training and certification; farmers will receive training in food handling as it pertains
   to the handling of fresh produce in the agriculture sector, from the Environmental Health Department.
   The project will provide the containers to facilitate the health checks and fund the cost of certification.
4. The construction of fresh produce washstands on thirty (30) farms; Concrete washstands will be
   constructed on thirty (30) farms as required by a contracted contractor. These will avoid farmers from
   constantly stooping when washing and preparing fresh produce.
5. The installation of safety signs on 30(thirty) farms; Safety signs will be installed on farms.
