17th June 2022: The Dominica Olympic Committee (DOC) on Friday 17th June 2022 announced its final 6 member team representing Dominica at the Inaugural Caribbean Games to be held from June 29th – July 3rd , 2022 in Guadeloupe.
Led by Chef de Mission and DOC Executive Member, Mr. Chester Letang, the Dominica team will compete in Road Cycling and Athletics. Kohath Baron shall compete in the 110 – 125km Road Cycling Road Race and will be accompanied by his Coach and father, Mr. Levi Baron. The Athletics team will be accompanied by Coach Mr. Cedric Harris and shall feature 100m sprinter Ms. Kianne Benjamin and 800m middle distance runner Ms. Keva Pierre. Mr. Brendan Williams shall represent the Dominica Olympic Committee as Safeguarding Officer and Executive Board Member.
Mr. Billy Doctrove, President of the DOC commented “Whilst we would have liked to field a larger team given the close proximity of the Games and in keeping with our efforts to promote opportunities for our young athletes, factors beyond our control such as age restrictions, restrictions in the disciplines offered for Athletics by the organizers, quotas and regional ranking in other disciplines, resulted in a greatly reduced team size. Nonetheless we believe we have high quality athletes and are excited to see their performances at the Games.”
Mr. Chester Letang added his commendations to Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC) , the body overseeing the Caribbean Games stating, “ CANOC and the LOC have done an excellent job thus far to see the Games through to reality despite the many challenges faced. I am excited to see Dominica’s flag flown for the first of many times at this event which serves as an important source of inspiration for our young athletes.”
The Guadeloupe 2022 Caribbean Games shall feature 29 countries with over 800 athletes competing across seven (7) sports. The Games can be viewed live on the Panam Sports Channel which can be accessed via the following link: panamsportschannel.org.
