Following a fire which occurred at the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation’s (DSWMC) Fond Cole Landfill last Saturday, a call for new security measures will be implemented.
Landfill Manager Jeno Jacobs says that although some measures already exist, they will now be enforced. Jacobs also stated that measures such as separation of waste at source will be one of the measures to be enforced and refusal to do so will be treated with banned entry into the landfill. A fine of $200.00 will be charged for any vehicle coming into the landfill with mixed waste as there are separations at the landfill for the different categories of waste.
Jacobs stated that more hydrants and other firefighting equipment are needed, based on recommendations from the Fire Department.
