
Roseau, Dominica – The Dominica Association of Teachers (DAT) is proud to announce the hosting of its 2025 Workshop & Education Conference, scheduled to take place from Monday, June 2 to Friday, June 6, 2025, at the Pastoral Centre, Morne Bruce. This year’s events are being held under the themes:
- Workshop Theme: “Empowering Educators to Lead with Resilience and Advocate for Lasting Change within the Dominica Association of Teachers.”
- Conference Theme: “Amplifying Teachers’ Voices: Empowering Educators, Building Resilience.”
This highly anticipated annual event brings together educators from across the island to engage in professional development, policy dialogue, and union strengthening activities aimed at enhancing the quality of education in Dominica.
The workshop segment, held from June 2–4, will feature plenary sessions led by national and regional experts such as:
- Miss Ashma McDougal on The Role of the Teacher in National Development
- Dr. Lennox Honychurch on A Brief History of Trade Unionism
- Dr. Garth Anderson of CUT on Empowering Teachers as Agents of Change
Topics will span education law, collective agreements, grievance procedures, and the critical role of school representatives in upholding teachers’ rights.
The Education Conference, running from June 5–6, will focus on national development, policy influence, equity in education, and the integration of modern technologies such as Artificial Intelligence in the classroom. Featured speakers include:
- Dr. Jeffrey Blaize on Education and National Development
- Dr. Kimone Joseph on Visionary Leadership in Education
- Mrs. Josephine Dublin on Artificial Intelligence: Threats and Opportunities for Teachers
- Mrs. Gezel Mondesire-Charles on The 1996 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation on the Status of Teachers
Mr. Mervin Alexander, DAT President, will lead discussions on promoting quality education and strengthening the union’s role in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4.
