Dominican-Born Brishelle Bazil Named Valedictorian of Young Women’s Preparatory Academy Class of 2025

Young Women’s Preparatory Academy has named 18-year-old Brishelle Bazil as the valedictorian of its graduating class of 2025, recognizing her outstanding academic performance, leadership, and commitment to service throughout her high school journey.

Originally from Dominica, Bazil moved to the United States in 2012 at the age of five. Since then, she has distinguished herself as a top scholar at one of Houston’s premier all-girls public schools. Her unwavering dedication and discipline have earned her the school’s highest academic honor.

Bazil has demonstrated remarkable leadership through her involvement in various student organizations. She serves as President of the National Honor Society and holds key roles in the National Society of Black Engineers (as Programs Chair), Interact and Rotary Clubs, GeoForce, and the NAACP. In addition, she is a QuestBridge Scholar and the CEO of “Student to Student,” a student-run mentorship program.

Her accomplishments extend beyond the classroom. An active athlete and STEM enthusiast, Bazil competes on the varsity track team and junior varsity volleyball team, and she is the lead driver for her school’s Ten90 robotics team. She was also honored by the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) with the Aspirations in Computing award.

This fall, Bazil will attend the prestigious Amherst College on a full-ride scholarship, where she plans to major in Biology on a pre-medical track. She is also the recipient of several highly competitive scholarships, including the Gates Scholarship, Greater Houston Frontiers Club Scholarship, Momentum Scholarship, and the Big Future Scholarship.

The graduation ceremony was held on June 4, 2025, where Bazil will deliver the valedictory address before her fellow graduates, faculty, family, and community members.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
