Ten (10) Dominican students were on Friday awarded full scholarships to pursue studies in Cuba. Among them is former PSS student Verlaner Boyer who will study Medicine along with Jernel Phillip, Niquella Carbon, Rubelto Rolle, Jade Beaupierre and Tiffany Rolle.
Boyer said, “I am elated to be one of the blessed persons to receive such an opportunity and I am extremely grateful for it. Big thanks to the Almighty Father and thanks to the Governments of Dominica and Cuba”.
The other students are Corey Abdy who will study Architecture; Garner Harris, Agronomy; Joshua Brandon Lander, Electrical Engineering and Sakishi Challenger will pursue a post-graduate degree in internal medicine.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Ulises Arranz Fernández said that despite a continuing US embargo on Cuba, the country would continue to be a friend to Dominica and offer assistance in health and education.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Chandler Hyacinth expressed gratitude to Cuba for over 40 years of support to Dominica’s human resource development.
The students are expected to begin their studies in January 2021.
