On October 30th, students, staff, parents, and well-wishers of the W. S. Stevens Primary School, gathered at the Marigot Pentecostal Church to celebrate the school’s fiftieth anniversary.
The school which was named after former Government Minister Wills Strathmore Stevens officially opened on October 23, 1969, but opened its doors to students in January 1970.
The school was built in order to provide education for students of Marigot in one central location. Prior to that students attended classes at 7 different locations in the village.
Other activities marking the fifty-year anniversary include a tree planting exercise which was held on October 23, a talent show, an award and appreciation ceremony, a magazine, a family fun day, establishing a wall of fame and an exhibition.
The Wills Strathmore Stevens School has a very rich and honored tradition and can boast of a number of outstanding awards in various fields. The first principal of the school was Mr. Morris Joseph. Other principals included Mr. Bernard carbon, Mrs mona Joseph, Mrs. Phyllis Pascal, Mr. Kenneth Samuel, Mr. James Greer, Mr. Joseph Russel, and the present principal is Mr. Alvin Abraham.
