President of the Dominica Employment Federation (DEF) has renewed calls for a review of Dominica’s Employment Act to make Sunday an ordinary day of work.
However, president of the Waterfront and Allied Workers Union (WAWU), Kertiste Augustus says that the private sector unions are concerned as it would seem that every two years the DEF comes with basically the same call wanting to affect Sunday. He says that the Unions have already responded to such a call in the past.
Meanwhile, the DEF says that they are simply interested in a restructure of the public service and that employees would still be entitled to one rest day a week. Also they will be able to choose not to come to work on Sunday or Saturday in order to attend church services.
This issue continues to be discussed in the media with many persons saying that this is a move that will be beneficial to employers and not employees.
