WAITUKUBULI DANCE THEATRE COMPANY OBSERVES 53 RD ANNIVERSARY

The Waitukubuli Dance Theatre Company celebrates its 53rd anniversary with an exciting dance and music production entitled “ENCOUNTERS”. The event will be held on the Terrace at the Fort Young Hotel on Saturday June 29th 2024 starting at 7.30pm.

The show will feature rhythmic and pulsating dances from the Dance Company and it will also be showcasing the singing talents of AbiYah Yisrael, Janae Jackson, Janet Azzouz and Barbara Bully Thomas. There will also be a drumming ensemble performance with outstanding drummers including Mickael Ferrol and Delton Dalrymple.  

The audience will treated to a range of dances including interpretations of gospel, various afro-beats, compa, bouyon and bele rhythms. The dances will be performed by the Junior and Senior sections of the group. The pieces are choreographed by the group’s Artistic Director Raymond Lawrence, the Assistant Artistic Director Dorelle Diolen and other members of the group.

Artistic Director Raymond Lawrence says the Dance Company gives thanks to God for bringing the group to 53 years and helping them to stage numerous successful events including dance productions and performances, Teen Pageants and regional tours. He said the group has a rich creole dance legacy and a volume of works of which it is proud and he thanks all the past and present members of the group who all played a role in the outstanding achievements of the group.

Among its awards and accolades the Waitukubuli Dance Theatre Company received the Edward Leblanc Trophy in 1984 and 1985 and also the Golden Drum Award in 2003.

The Dance Company has performed in several Caribbean countries including Trinidad, Barbados, St. Lucia, Martinique, Guadeloupe, St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. Martin and Antigua.

Tickets for the Waitukubuli “ENCOUNTERS” event cost $40 and are available for sale at Depex and Bulls Eye Pharmacy. Patrons can also purchase tickets on the night of the show at the Terrace which is the show venue at the Fort Young Hotel.  

The public is being asked to give their fullest support to this sensational cultural event.
