Dj extraordinaire, radio personality, and creole fanatic, Leroy Wadix Charles says that the WCMF was created to promote creole culture but seems to be heading away from that direction.
He says, “I have been fortunate to be around the festival from inception, I knew of its intention, I knew what it stood for, I have no problem with introducing other creole genres, but if that is the pattern where the creole, Franco creole or Kweyol has to be diluted and eliminated then I will stay away and will continue to stay away”.
Charles also commented on the length of time artists like Gordon Henderson and Ophelia were given compared to the other Reggae and Soca artists and said that it is troubling. He also took issue with an incident that occurred where a reggae artist wanted to entire stage cleared, even the Masters of Ceremony before he came on and said that he will not be intimated or made to feel like a second class citizen in his own country.
When Charles refused to move, he was approached by two officials who asked him to do so. Charles took to the media to express his displeasure.
