Update: Dominica Records Two New COVID-19 Cases

The Commonwealth of Dominica has recorded two new cases of  COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 24 and the total number of active cases to 6.

National Epidemiologist, Dr. Shaluddin Ahmed reported that these cases are imported cases,and not contacts of previous cases.

He explained, “One is a 59-year old female and the other is a 35-year old male. These individuals have been in isolation, since they arrived in Dominica
on September 5th, as a result of a positive rapid test on arrival. Subsequently, PCR testing was done to confirm”.

Dr. Ahmed confirmed that the individuals are asymptomatic and have been admitted to the COVID facility.

He said further that contact tracing is ongoing and that 6 direct contacts have been
identified from these two individuals. These 6 contacts will be tested soon.

Dr. Ahmed also reported that 14 contacts identified from case number 4 have tested
negative using the PCR method.

Dr. Ahmed concluded by expressing sincere gratitude to all stakeholders for their support in surveillance, during
the COVID-19 pandemic.
