Trump Announces Plans to Lift Syria Sanctions, Seals $142 Billion Arms Deal on Saudi Visit

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to lift all sanctions against Syria and described Saudi Arabia as America’s “strongest partner” during a high-profile visit to the Gulf region, marking his first major foreign trip.

Speaking in the Saudi capital, Trump signaled a shift in U.S. policy toward Syria, stating it was time to give the war-torn nation “a chance at greatness.” The move to ease sanctions was presented as part of a broader vision for regional stability and economic cooperation.

The visit also saw the signing of a landmark $142 billion arms agreement between the United States and Saudi Arabia, with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman suggesting the deal could be part of broader investment projects totaling up to $1 trillion in the future.

The trip marks Trump’s second presidential visit to Saudi Arabia, following his 2017 tour when he made the kingdom his first international stop. His current itinerary includes upcoming visits to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, as the administration seeks to deepen strategic ties across the Gulf.
