A meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and Diaspora Relations of the Commonwealth of Dominica, the Honorable Dr. Kenneth Darroux, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, Ulises Arranz Fernández, was held at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry of this brother country, to commemorate the 26th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Dominica and discuss issues of interest to both nations.
In Dominica there is a Cuban permanent health brigade made up of 92 collaborators, including specialists, doctors, stomatologists, nursing graduates, technical personnel, with a presence in the 7 health districts in the country. In addition, there are relationships in other spheres of the services, in construction matters, and through the Scholarship Plan offered by Cuba, dozens of young Dominicans study in different university careers in this moment. Between Cuba and Dominica there is a visa exemption agreement that guarantees a regular, safe and orderly flow between the nationals of both countries.
During the meeting, it was possible to verify the level of the existing relations between both countries, which are in an excellent moment, a sample of which was the recent official visit made to the Republic of Cuba by the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Honorable Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit and the delegation that accompanied him, between April 24 and 27, 2022. The visit allowed the signing of an agreement to carry out the negotiation for the acquisition of the Cuban medicine HEBERPROT – P, which allows treating the “diabetic foot” disease; as well as the identification of new spheres of cooperation and commercial exchange that will increase the existing links between both peoples and nations.
