TikTok Goes Offline in the U.S. Ahead of Ban Implementation

On Saturday night, TikTok became inaccessible to users in the United States, just hours before a nationwide ban was set to take effect. This unexpected shutdown cuts access to one of the world’s most popular social media platforms, which had been utilized by an estimated 170 million Americans.

Users attempting to access the app were greeted with a message stating:
“Sorry, TikTok isn’t available right now. A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can’t use TikTok for now.”

The blackout follows a Supreme Court decision on Friday that upheld a law passed with bipartisan support in Congress and signed by President Joe Biden in April. The legislation prohibits U.S.-based companies from hosting or delivering content for TikTok unless the Chinese-owned platform is sold to a buyer from the United States or an allied nation.
