The House of Nyabingi in collaboration with Dominica Reparations Committee held activities for African Day

The House of Nyabingi in collaboration with Dominica Reparations Committee held series of activities throughout the week in celebrations of World African Day on May 25th. 

The first event organized was Africa Dress Day on May 20th.

Chairman of the Reparations Committee, Dr. Damian Dublin stated that this concept is one that has been put forward as a means of sensitizing people of the various Fashions and dresses which existed in Africa.

The idea is to make this a day in our national calendar.  Africa dress day is usually held the Friday before May 25th, which is Africa day.

 “We are hoping that this idea will catch and will be reflected in schools and workplaces as time goes on.”

On Tuesday, May 24th a symposium on cannabis commercialization and various aspects was organized by RIWMCOP which is a Cooperative branch of the House of Nyabingi.

“This activity is very successful in collaboration with UWI. We had various presenters presenting on various aspects of the Cannabis commercialization and the use for medicinal purposes.”

On Africa day there was a match form the Barracoon Building through the streets of Roseau, which ended up at Pebbles Park.

“We had the usual solidarity messages, cultural performances, poems, artists, exhibition of African wear local art and craft and showcase of local food.” All in all, he noted the activities thus far was successful.

“The interesting part about this year was the sisters council of the house of Nyabingi were the ones who took the lead in organizing Africa Day activities.”

The final activity will be on Saturday May 28th where the committee will be incorporating an aspect of sports.

“We will be having the football Africa youth Cup. This is being organized in collaboration with 767 Sports Club headed by Dunston Maggie Peters.”

It will be held at 3pm on Saturday May 28th as well as a basketball game at 5:30pm at Bath Road court.
