Roseau, Dominica: August 11, 2023 — The Alwin Bully Foundation is encouraging theatre lovers and supporters of the arts to go out and give their support to the staging of the Alwin Bully’s classic play, “The Nite Box- A Caribbean Murder Mystery” by La Cour des Arts de La Dominique which opens here this evening with the premiere of a weekend of staging’s of the play at the Goodwill Primary School Auditorium, from 8:00 p.m. nightly.
The Nite Box which is one of the plays written by the late Alwin Bully and first directed by the late Mikey Bruney, is set in Dominica in the turbulent periods of the 1970’s highlighting the struggles of public sector workers and showcases the brilliant story-telling skills of this legendary Dominican theatre icon.
The staging of the Nite Box is the production of the La Cour des Arts de la Dominique, a local theatre group headed by Gloria Augustus and other former members of the iconic theatre group, The People’s Action Theatre. The new staging’s of the play is being directed by well-known theatre practitioner, Curtis Clarendon, with a cast made up entirely of new and emerging acting talents.
The Alwin Bully Foundation Inc. which is collaborating with the La Cour des Arts on the project, has given its full endorsement of the effort, and calls on theatre lovers to turn out in their numbers to support the group in its attempt to revive the once dynamic theatre scene in Dominica. This collaborative effort is part of the vision of the Alwin Bully Foundation Inc. to work with like-minded organizations in its effort to keep Alwin’s memory alive and to help sustain and support the growth of the arts and culture in Dominica.
The Alwin Bully Foundation Inc. therefore would like to encourage especially those who have never had the opportunity to see this iconic play to come experience one of the region’s major theatrical productions which has been staged around the Caribbean.
