Issued by the Dominica Meteorological Service at 2:30 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2019.
A tropical wave with an area of low pressure currently over the Tropical Atlantic, approximately 1000 miles southeast of the Lesser Antilles, is being monitored for development. Some slow development of this system is possible and a tropical depression could form by early next week while the low moves west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph.
Regardless of development, activity ahead of this strong tropical wave is expected to begin generating cloudiness, showers which could be moderate to heavy at times and possible thunderstorm activity over the Windward islands on Monday.
The activity is then projected to move northwards across the Leeward Islands and Dominica by Monday night and linger through to Wednesday. Residents are therefore advised to be vigilant into early next week and keep updated on the progress of this system.
Remember we are in the hurricane season, so always be prepared. The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates.
