Families and friends of the late Stephen ‘Paboy’ Thomas of Paix Bouche make a social commitment to the communities of Paix Bouche, Bense, Anse-de-Mai and Anse Soldat through a scholarship foundation in his honour.
The charitable Foundation was recently incorporated and founded by his daughter Tamica Thomas to provide scholarship opportunities to students from these communities attending any of the two catchment schools. Two scholarships will be issued on an annual basis to assist with the transition to secondary school, allowing as many students as possible to benefit from the Foundation over a period of time.
The creation of this Foundation almost one year after his death is perfectly complementary to the legacy of Paboy’s last few years of his life dedicated to voluntary service for the improved quality of life of the residents of these communities that were close to his heart.
According to Tamica: “Paboy was a people’s person. He was always ready to help, could never say no and no task was too menial……One of his biggest regrets was not having a better education. In his era, pursuing an education was a luxury and contingent on the family finances. His story was the catalyst for the foundation’s mission and decision to support the pursuit of education for financially disadvantaged students…”
Dr. Kyra Paul, President, adds: “We are very pleased to launch the Stephen Paboy Thomas Foundation. This Foundation is a source of pride for each of the Directors who were associated and touched by Paboy’s selflessness in one way or the other. For me and my family, he has been an inspiration – a man who had little to offer but a very big heart to give – one of the best of this world!”
The Foundation is managed by a Board of Directors and includes: Tamica Thomas, Adrian Thomas, Dr. Kyra Paul, Adel Francis-Thomas, Jeffers L’Homme, Dr. Geoffrey La Fond, and Lena Christian.
