SMA 4H Club Is A Club On A Move

The 4H Club at the St. Mary’s Academy is definitely living up to the 4H motto of pledging their Head, Heart, Hands, and Health to their community.

In observance of the month of the Elderly, the club gave care packages to a number of elderly persons in their community.

Public Relations Officer(PRO) of the SMA 4H Club, Ché Alejandro St.Justin Gittens, says that giving care packages  is what the 4H Club is about and that the members of the club are glad to have been able to assist the persons in need.

Further, the club has embarked on kayaking activities with members.

The PRO, says, “I love learning to Kayak. I think it’s really peaceful on the water and along with that I think the sport is a great one to introduce to our students because you hear about basketball matches and football matches but you don’t hear anything about Kayaking. A new sport such as this one is great for exposing our students to new things, people, possibilities and hobbies”.

He said further that the sport has the potential to bring group members closer as it gives them something in common. He also sees the formation of new friendships and more unity among group members.

Director of the SMA 4H Club, Teacher Bert Paul expresses thanks to the Dominica Kayaking Association and boasts that at present, the SMA is the only school with a kayaking group.
