School Teacher Is Powerball Winner; Says She Was Always Hopeful That She would Win

The Dominica National Lottery(DNL) presented the first Powerball Jackpot winner for 2021.

Shalda Corbette, a teacher from the Kalinago Territory won $95,619 which she says will go towards her education and that of her children.

Corbette who is an avid lottery player said that she was always hopeful that one day she would win.

She said, “I just want to thank the DNL. I have been playing lottery games for about six years now since I was going to college”.

Corbette said that she felt ‘so excited’ when she realized that she had won. She shared the news with her sister and her mother .

“I said one day I had to win either the Powerball or the Super six and that evening I won the Powerball. I just want to urge everyone, to encourage everyone listening to don’t give up, one day you will win, because you have to be in it to win it”.

Sales and Marketing Manager at the DNL, Ken George explained that the winning ticket was purchased at 787 Starrin & Sons on January 30, 2021. He said that unlike the other games, the complete Powerball jackpot comes from Dominica so he is encouraging everyone to play and to be a winner like Ms. Corbette.
