Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security and Home Affairs, Jo anne Commodore commended the men and women of the Fire Services for their responsiveness, willingness to learn and always searching for ways to maximize output and productivity. She reminded the officers that their service and sacrifice is never in vain as Dominica will reap the benefits.
She said, “We congratulate you because you have shown us that when our back is against the wall, you will deliver and you will do so with a smile, love and with compassion”.
Commodore commended the Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Chief, who she said knows each fireman by name and circumstance and is able to passionately relay their concerns to management. She said that both men continue to advocate for their staff.
She said that one of Dominica’s development goals is improved quality of life and having an efficient and dedicated fire service is central to that goal.
Commodore also thanked the private sector for their continued partnership during the pandemic.
Meanwhile, minister with the responsibility for National Security and Home Affairs, Hon. Rayburn Blackmore took issue with comments made on social media regarding the distribution of ambulances which he deemed as deliberately harmful information. He said that 14 ambulances have been provided to the Dominica Fire and Ambulance Services; each health district is equipped with a fully functional ambulance and there are 6 ambulances specifically for COVID-19 response.
Blackmore said further that he believes that all fire officers deserved an award today because they have always risen to the task when called upon.
He also pointed to the fact that not one officer has been infected and so citizens must understand that if persons follow the protocols, they are able to prevent COVID-19 infection.
The Minister promised that issues relating to the Fire Service will be addressed in a timely basis.
The Honourable Minister and Ms. Commodore made these remarks on Friday at a ceremony which recognized the efforts of Fire Officers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
