The Ministry of Public Works and the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) have erected signs in the town of Portsmouth to change the flow of traffic on the three main roads in the town and the other lanes leading to these main streets. Bay Street, Harbor Lane and Rodney Street are now all one way streets.
Bay Street is one way (Borrow square or Police station lane) from the South all the way down to Lagoon, Rodney Street (Benjamin’s Park) can be accessed from the North and Harbor lane (Bakery lane) is also one way from the North end. Persons can use the inner streets to divert on either of the main one way streets.
*South is from Roseau side and North is from Capuchin side
Persons are asked to obey the new traffic signs so as to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic.
Business persons and commuters alike are happy for the change. One person said, “This will indeed free up traffic and allow persons to get to where they are going faster with less hassle. No more backed up traffic or persons having to reverse to allow others to pass. I am happy that the authorities have finally decided to take this step”.
