Once again, the Caribbean’s only Veterinary University opened today its door in Morne Daniel to its new group of students. As the international COVID situation stabilizes, in addition to Dominica students this
semester is seeing students arriving from several countries including Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, St Lucia, and also a strong group from United States.
“It is real pleasure to see many new excited students choosing Dominica for their education dream” – says Dr. Naderkhani, University’s President. “I keep thinking of all students as of extended family, and
this family keeps rapidly growing. However, as our University matures, today we had also another occasion – a Graduation Ceremony for a class of our first students receiving diploma of Veterinary Technology Associate. Our most sincere congratulations to our first graduates!”
This time whole ceremony was hosted by Dr Rita Nassief – Zreik, vice-president and also volunteer and coordinator at St Nicholas Animal Rescue – one of several additions to the dynamic University team.
Students also heard remarks by Dr St.Amie – acting Veterinary Officer, Dr Charles – Dean of Pre-Vet, and an introduction to Dominica history by Former Chief Cultural Officer, Mr. Raymond Lawrence.
A short commentary on life on our beautiful island, combined with safety tips for students was presented by a Police Officer, Financial nInvestigator Gary Benjamin. Ministry ofBlue and Green Economy and Agriculture was represented by Yanel Bruno.
As international students keep arriving and university continues to gain respect locally and abroad, it also contributes to local communities in many ways, supporting local growth. As each student stays for 4 to 5
years and families visit, accommodation sector, food, entertainment, and many other businesses benefit directly, while good word of mouth and University reputation add to exposure of Dominica to international audience.
Many students also chose to volunteer at St Nicholas Animal Rescue, helping animals and this way also overall well-being in Dominica – at the same time gaining invaluable hands-on experience in veterinary medicine.
