Roseau, Dominica – It is official, history has been made by the National Youth Council of Dominica in partnership with the House of Assembly on hosting the First Meeting of the First Session of the National Youth Parliament of Dominica 2022-2023, which has been commended as a resounding success!
Hosted on the 23rd and 24th of March, 2022, the session has definitely made an impact on the fabric of youth realities here in Dominica and as well, has impacted the perspectives of many here on island as it relates to the level of youth participation and involvement at the policy level. Our National Youth Parliamentarians have been afforded an opportunity of a lifetime to display and develop their intellect, public debating, argumentative and leadership skills and as well, their level of understanding as it relates to public policy, legislature and its impact on the average youth of our nation.
While we recognize that there still lies a journey ahead before the optimal realisation of key goals that must be achieved to have a healthy, active and vibrant constituent of youth such as; youth representation, youth opportunities and a need for an increase in youth investment and research, we must say that we are definitely on the right path to making Dominica young again.
To all of our partners, sponsors, well wishers and supporters, this historic moment wouldn’t
have been possible without your patronage and collaboration, and has definitely gone down in the books as a major milestone to youth development.
Special mention must be made to the Office of the Prime Minister, the Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, the Hon. Leader of the Opposition Lennox Linton, the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment, Youth at Risk, Gender Affairs, Seniors Security and Dominicans with Disabilities, headed by the Hon. Dr. Adis King, the Youth Development Division through the Chief Youth Development Officer, Mr. John Roach, the Ministry of Education, Human Resource Planning, Vocational Training and National Excellence represented by Education
Officer Merrita Hyacinth and Counsellor within the MOE, Mrs. Joanne Rolle Carette.
