Concerns have been raised over a dark, oily sludge close to the mouth of the Layou River and Chief Physical Planner in the Division of Planning, Genora Joseph, assures the public that the investigations are on going.
She says that the Planning Division takes these reports seriously and set out to investigate with utmost care.According to her, there are a number of environmental activities ongoing close to the Layou River including activities of the Asphalt plant, river dredging and sand mining.
The Asphalt Plant has been investigated and it has been concluded that waste product from the plant are being disposed of properly. She says that there is a possibility that the liquid originated from heavy machinery operating in the area.
Joseph is calling on persons who may have information to come forward and present said information to the Planning Division or the Environmental Health Department.
