Dominica will join the rest of the world in recognizing World Fisheries Day on November 21, 2024 under the national theme “Protecting our Ocean to Support Livelihoods and to Strengthen Blue Economy Sectors”.
This day was identified to raise awareness on fisheries related matters such as climate change, food security, livelihoods, marine conservation and other impacts.
In recognition of this significant day, the Fisheries Division has organized activities islandwide to include students, youth, fishers and other stakeholders to get involved and celebrate by participating in
- Educational discussions with students of the Newtown Primary, St. Luke’s Primary and Soufriere Primary and a site visit to the EX-SITU Coral nursery in Soufriere to allow students to view work being done at the Nursery on Friday 15th 2024 at 10.00am
- Radio Address by Minister Jullan Defoe
- Trivia Competition at the Dominica State College Thursday November 21 2024 at 10.00 a.m.
- Lectures at Primary Schools across the island at various times and days.
In light of this, the Fisheries Division has planned activities and are soliciting your partnership in assisting with coverage of these activities.
