On Monday 27 November, 2023 the Mill Academy Ltd. officially opened its doors with the unveiling of a school monument by His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams GCMG, KGN, Kst.J, DSc, PhD(hc), MBBS – The Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda.
The opening ceremony was a short, but symbolic reminder that great things come to those who work. The school, a childhood dream of Founder and Principal, Kisma Panthier-Jn Pierre, began as an after-school program in her residence at Liberta, and now serves as a beacon of youth empowerment in Antigua. Small but dynamic classrooms of only fifteen students allow for quality teaching and individual attention at this new primary school which offers grade K-6 education. Guides teach an integrated curriculum which covers Math, English, Science, Social Studies, Agriculture, Art, Craft, Information Technology, Coding, Robotics, music, pan, French, Spanish, Mandarin, Physical Education, Journaling, Yoga and meditation, environmental awareness and sustainability, thereby allowing the Mill Academy to satisfy at least three of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals, namely Goal 1: No poverty, Goal 4: Quality Education and Goal 5: Gender Equality.
The Mill Academy Ltd., which was founded by Roger Penfold and his wife Carrie, along with Kisma Panthier-Jn. Pierre, is not just a primary school. It boasts a proven Afterschool Learning Program supporting students who attend other primary and secondary schools across the island. The school also offers courses to adults in its Adult Booster Course (ABC Program), Financial Literacy Program and Entrepreneurship course. Monthly Town Hall Tuesday lectures bring together experts who share information about their various fields to a broad audience both in-person and online. Hence, their commitment is not only to serve the students of Antigua and Barbuda but to assist in building strong, viable communities through training, education, and youth empowerment.
The Mill Academy Ltd. Is built on five pillars: persistence, respect, personal pride, tolerance and vision.
