Layou Zone Preparing For Community Tourism Competition

The Dominica Community Tourism Association Incorporated (DCTAI) officially launched the second leg of the Community Tourism Enhancement Competition (CTEC) on Wednesday. The competition will focus on the South Western part of the Island from Salisbury to Grandbay.

Kimara Cuffy of the Layou Women’s Committee said that their zone is excited and preparations have already begun. Their zone includes Salisbury, St.Joseph and Mero.

The CTEC was launched last year and aims to ‘improve the aesthetic qualities and enhance visitor experience’ of the community’s tourism product. The competition will be judged on the four pillars of Cleanliness, Landscaping, Hospitality and Community Involvement.

One of the highlights of the competition is that the communities are supposed to put develop an event based in their tourism product. The community of Marigot won last year’s competition in the Northern zone and launched a very successful ‘Bonfire’ event.
