The Layou rehabilitation and construction project is going well. This is according to the Minister for public works, Hon. Cassani Laville.
He said, “To date two of these three components have been completed namely construction of an emergency shelter in the community of Layou and stabilization of the northern bank of the Layou river and reconstruction of a compromised section of the E.O Leblanc road west of the Hillsborough bridge”.
The Minister said that presently the Ministry is seeking to achieve the third component which is the reconstruction of 4 km of road between the Hillsborough bridge and the York valley bridge.
He said that the Ministry is evaluating 6 contractors who have submitted contracts for Phase 1 of the project and cabinet has approved activities to acquire all properties which will be affected.
The project which is funded by the Caribbean Development Bank(CDB) is estimated at USD 14 million. Construction is expected to begin in May and last for about a year.
