Ms. Maxroy Trading, Kimra Charles of Fond Cole, was officially launched on Saturday. Charles said that while she is known to be a reserved young lady who doesn’t say much, she has something to say and hopes that we listen.Charles said that despite having grown up in “what used to be the most feared village in Dominica”, she is “a smoothly carved gem formed from the pressures of this negativity”.

Her platform is breast cancer. She said, “I have become very alarmed by the number of lives taken by cancer… Many of us are very much aware of the scourge of cancer and its devastating impact on all of our communities”.

Charles said that breast cancer in men is among the cancers not widely popularized but which she will be giving further attention to through the use of her platform. According to her, she will encourage men to do routine checkups. She said, “A check today could save your boyfriend, husband, father or son from a lifetime of pain”.

Over the past ten years, we have had four known incidences of breast cancer in men in Dominica and I believe that it is one too many”.Charles said that the Miss Dominica Pageant affords ambitious young women like herself the opportunity to make a difference.

Charles thanked her sponsor, Maxroy Trading, for giving her full scholarship and urged other businesses to do likewise.
