In-country project with stakeholders for transforming Dominica health systems

An in-country project with stakeholders for transforming Dominica health systems and to achieve universal health was recently held at the Prevost Cinemall. 

This is a project will be a collaboration with Pan American Health Organization, (PAHO) and the Ministry of Health, Wellness and New Health Investment.

PAHO/WHO representative of Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Countries (ECC), Dr Amalia Del Riego announced that PAHO Barbados and staff from Washington headquarters will hold activates during this week with the objective of advancing global health care.

She said the project intends to facilitate in four important areas to achieve a strong, well-organized, and well-financed health system. 

These include health care services with focus on NCDs and revamping the basis of Primary Health Care through community engagement and the participation of stakeholders, giving attention to the hospital services, strengthening the Ministry of Health capacity for leadership and stewardship in governance and the strengthening of the information systems through digital transformation which will progress health in Dominica in a much more rapid state.

She noted that a health strategic plan will be given to the government that will clearly identify the targets and directions to take and a financing mechanism to help advance health care systems.
