Illegal Exports Of Wildlife A Constant Concern To Authorities

The Forestry Division is report that the illegal exports of wildlife remains a major concern in Dominica. The Division is reportedly working with the police in order to  find ways to decrease this practice.

Director of the Forestry Division, Minchinton Burton says, “Prior to this hunting season being opened, we’re still having issues of illegal hunting of wildlife. Some people are involved in that illicitly, exporting these things by bags. We had about 9 bags which were confiscated a few months ago in the Cabrits area,[another 6 bags or so], apparently people involved in illicit trading to the French islands. We are very strict on that; We are working with the Police to capture individuals involved in the illegal trade”.

Burton said that this practice is preventing future Dominicans from enjoy this delicacies when they are not being given sufficient time to replenish their numbers.

He says that the majority of Dominicans understand the importance of protecting wildlife.

Burton thanks the police for their help especially in these times while they are also trying to curb illegal entry.
