HIV/AIDS  Unit Encourages Persons To Get Tested and Enroll In Active Care Services

Dominica joins the rest of the world in recognizing World Aids Day which is usually celebrated on December 1.

Coordinator of the HIV/AIDS  Response Unit, Lester Guye says that Dominica continues to push towards the World Health Organization’s 90 90 90 target.

The target states that 90% of persons living within the virus should know; 90% of them should be in active care and 90% of those in active care should be virally suppressed meaning that their chances of infecting someone else is really slim at about 3%.

Guye encourages persons to get tested and receive the active care treatment and support available.

He said that from 1987, Dominica has reported over 500 cases of HIV/AIDS with about 171 deaths. Presently, there are about 115 persons in active care and only 5 cases of HIV/AIDS were reported in 2020.

The theme for this year is Solidarity: A Shared Responsibility.
