The government of the Commonwealth of Dominica will hand over housing units to residents of Petite Savanne who had to be relocated following Tropical Storm Erika in 2015.
EmoNews was reliably informed that a number of families and individuals will receive new houses in the area of Bellevue Chopin at a formal ceremony at 3:30 pm on Friday, December 07, 2018 in the new settlement.
As a result of the mandatory evacuation order, residents of this southeastern Dominican community were spread throughout Dominica, but this new settlement is designed to reunite this culturally vibrant community.
TS Erika, which was one of the most destructive natural disasters to hit Dominica in recent years was followed closely by hurricane Maria which decimated the island on September 18, 2016. Hurricane David also humbled the isle of nature on August 29, 1979.
