In its continued efforts at making Dominica the first climate-resilient nation in the World, the Government will completely ban the use of single-use plastic bags.

The Prime Minister said, “The ban will take effect God’s willing until 2020 and in anticipation of that we are bringing in about 100,000 reusable shopping bags that will be given to households in Dominica so that the average person who may not have the ability to have a bag, we’ll give you a bag so that you will have no excuse why you want to use single-use plastic bags in Dominica”.

Further, Skerrit says that Government will remove taxes and duties on biodegradable items so that it makes it more affordable for Dominicans to use biodegradable items.

He said that this is important for us as an island state who depend on the sea to feed ourselves. He also said further that this move is not about no international benefits or international press.
