On Friday 18 December 2020 IOM will be commemorating International Migrants Day under the theme ‘Reimagining Human Mobility’.
In recognition of this commemorative day, IOM wishes to invite you, your family, and friends to its Global Migration Film Festival. This event is a collaborative effort among four country offices in the Caribbean, namely the Bahamas, Dominica, Guyana & Jamaica, and will be held virtually this Thursday 17 December 2020 at 10:00 AM/ 1:00 PM/4:00 PM Eastern Caribbean Time (GMT-4).
This year’s film selection is “Revolution from Afar”. In 2019, following months of protests across the country. Sudan’s military removed thirty-year dictator Omar al-Bashir. It also cracked down violently on a civilian sit-in outside its headquarters. The Internet was shut down, leaving only those outside Sudan to voice a plea for a peaceful transition to civil government. An ocean away, Sudanese-American poets and musicians gather in major American cities to perform in support of the revolution. At the heart of this film is a conversation about identity, belonging, and the uncertain future of Sudan, from which Diaspora Sudanese have been physically isolated. What happens when they can only watch from afar?
