For the first time in history, the Dominica Cultural Division has launched culture 101 – The Anthem.  

For the first time in history, the Dominica Cultural Division has launched culture 101 – The Anthem.  

Acting Chief Cultural Officer, Earlson Matthew stated in a press statement that as part of branding, the division saw the need to have a creative piece of work that represents “who we are and what we do”, not just as a cultural division, but as Dominicans.  

“The end result is an anthem that can be used at all events by DJs, in a social setting as a tourism product that promotes Dominica as an educational tool and so much more,”  he said. 

In three minutes, the piece touches on many aspects of our culture, including xingping music, the Creole language, Dominica’s indigenous kalinago People, the food that we grow and eat or European and African dances, they Chanté mass Carnival tradition, candancelypso, Lapo kabwit, Bouyon music, the national wear and oral traditions, such as Tim Tim and Kont.

The project features Some of the most prominent artists in our recent history. Mr. Benji N2O, Asa Bantan, Tasha P, white fairy, Mr. Delly, and the Tradibelle cultural group.  

“We believe that this has the potential to be something historical and we urge all true Patriots to share it as much as possible.”

The following link shows of the video of the anthem. It is about a curious young Kalinago is lured towards the infectious rhythm of local Jing Ping Music. As she observes from a distance, she gains an appreciation for various aspects of Dominican culture on display and by the time her journey was over, she had become part of the experience, a true testament to the Dominican culture of coexistence and unity.
