Minister for National Security and Home Affairs, Hon. Rayburn Blackmore has announced that Dominica will see the issuance of E-Passports from May 2021.
He explained, “With this new passport, it contains a laser embedded microchip which provides enhanced security. Therefore this passport reduces the risk of tampering and identity fraud. That is significant”.
There will also be an upgrade to the Border Management Control System which will facilitate advance cargo and passenger information as well as monitor the E-Passports and cultivate a watchlist for persons of interest.
The Minister said that the passport will be an innovative one with international design and Dominica will be one of the only countries in the region to have such a passport.
The E-Passport and Border Management Control System project is expected to cost 18 million dollars to implement.
